Lovecraft in the modern day is pretty much always a retelling of call of Cthulhu, it's very lazy as there's so many better and more interesting stories. My favourite is easily the dream quest of unknown kadath.

I think the biggest problem is most adaptations will be a visual medium and that makes it incredibly hard to know what to show and what not to. It's hard to invoke the sense of insanity just from seeing something if the audience sees it too.
It can be sometimes. I feel absolutely awful with some of the things I inflict on a few of the characters. You spend 300 words creating them just to rip everything they love away from them. I get way more emotional about that than I should lol.

I played the sinking city recently and rather enjoyed it. Wasn't perfect but it was about as good as a Lovecraft game can be imo.
It's weird, because they're fictional characters I've completely made up. But I feel bad that instead of giving them a happy ending I give them something horrible instead.
